The activities presented on this site can be used in a wide variety of ways. Parents can do these activities at home with their child. Teachers or media specialists can lead individual, groups, or classes of studets through the activities together.
In these busy times, educators are under a great deal of pressure to cover a growing range of standards with their students. In some cases, a teacher or media specialists may not feel that he or she can devote class time to lead students through these activities. In this case, a independent learning center could easily be developed.
Display Ideas
- Display copies of the Cinderella stories in the center.
- Place color copies of the book covers on a bulletin board above the center.
- Create giant castle for the bulletin board, or even better, in three-dimensions that surround the center!
- Have a work desk with a computer and plenty of space available.
- Have baskets with all the materials necessary right near by.
- Display student work!
Preparation
- If students are to work independently, you are going to want to have the Cinderella Story Elements Interactive site and the Read Write Think site both as icons on the computer desktop for easy access.
- Students will need instructions. Using laminated tag board with simple steps to follow, including pictures, works well. Create one page of instructions for the Cinderella Story Elements Interactive site and another for the Read Write Think site.
- Choose which activities to have students complete at the Read Write Think Site ahead of time.
- Here are examples of three direction cards to guide students through the Cinderella Story Elements Interactive site and the Story Map on the Read Write Think site. Each card has a front and back.
Card One : Directions for the Cinderella Story Elements Interactive site
Card Two: Directions to complete a Story Map
Card Three: Directions to complete a Plot Diagram
- After time passes, you may want to change the directions cards to lead students through more activities related to this unit. One suggestion is to have students read other versions of the story and then use the story map and plot diagram again to have students write their own story.
